Our Tutors

Ms. Blair

“Science is not a boy's game. It's not a girl's game. It's everyone's game. It's about where we are and where we're going.”
- Nichelle Nichols, “Lt. Uhura” on Star Trek and NASA Ambassador

Hello! You can call me Ms. Blair. I have a degree in Economics and Mathematics from Cal State University, Northridge and I’ve been tutoring math for over 20 years 😮. When I was in high school, I never liked math, but I really enjoy helping student learn that they can learn anything, including all sorts of math. Math is a language and the more languages you know, the more you can understand the world. Like they say in the movie Mean Girls, it’s the universal language. In my free time, I like to be active when I’m outdoors and watch cartoons and YouTube when I’m in doors. Send me a request for tutoring! I’d love to help you love math too!

Ms. Cristina

“A little progress each day adds up to big results.”
- Satya Nani

Hello Students! My name is Ms. Cristina. I am a tutor and substitute teacher at Mission Academy. I graduated from Stanislaus State and received my Bachelors of Arts degree in Child Development with a minor in Psychology. My favorite subject to tutor is English, along with Electives. I enjoy working with students, learning more about their interest, and their educational/life goals. I am passionate about education and helping students succeed. A little bit about me is that I love to read, visit national parks, and spend time with my friends and family. I also love to travel and hope to one day visit as many new places as I can.

Ms. Darlene

"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world."
- Nelson Mandela

Hi! My name is Darlene and I’m a tutor here at Mission Academy. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Cal State Northridge. I originally wanted to become a social worker but now my new passion is to teach. I tutor all subjects, but my favorite subject is social studies. My goal is to help our students grow and succeed in reaching their academic goals. I’m here to help you and I look forward to working with you! Some things about me are that I enjoy watching movies, reading, trying new restaurants, going on walks, and spending time with family.

Mr. Dominic

“The only journey is the journey within.”
- Rainer Maria Rilke

Hello, my name is Dominic Banuelos! I love everything outdoors whether it be running, biking, hiking or swimming! When I'm not outside I also enjoy playing video games on my PS5 or Nintendo switch. Education changed my life, as I once thought school was not for me. Eventually, I realized that was not true. I just convinced myself it was. Once you learn to drop your preconceptions you can begin to see what you are truly capable of!

Ms. Finley

“One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.”
- Malala Yousafzai

My name is Ms. Finley and I am one of your academic tutors here at Elev8! I have a Bachelor's degree from California State University Northridge and am working on completing my credential. My favorite subject to tutor is English but I also LOVE science too. I currently reside in San Diego. My personal hobbies include reading, dancing, and being a mermaid- I have a tail and everything. I love anything ocean related. I have three pets: a dog, a cat, and a snake. I look forward to working with you and learning together!

Mr. Gustavo

“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.”
- Paulo Coelho

My name is Gustavo and I am a tutor at Mission Academy. I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a degree in English. I enjoy tutoring all subjects. My favorite part about tutoring is helping students grow and gain confidence in their skills while helping them achieve academic success. During my spare time, I enjoy playing with my dogs, going on walks, watching football, watching new movies or shows, trying new restaurants, traveling, and spending time with my family.

Ms. Katie

“Life is a journey to be experienced, not a problem to be solved.”
- Winnie The Pooh

Katie is a California girl at heart, although she spent most of her life in the small town of Ashland, Oregon. She graduated from Southern Oregon University with a degree in Elementary Education and Shakespearean Studies, then promptly moved to Los Angeles. Katie loves math, thanks to her parents relentless efforts to make her work harder (even though she had to take Algebra TWICE!). She also loves playing with her cat, watching Doctor Who, and going to Disneyland as often as she can.

Mr. Miguel

“If you focus on what you left behind, you will never be able to see what lies ahead.”
- Gusteau (Ratatouille)

Hello! I’m Mr. Miguel and I am an Online Tutor. I went to Cal State Northridge where I got my degree in Child and Adolescent Development. I think it’s easy to trick yourself into believing that you can’t do something, so what I love about tutoring is that it helps students gain confidence. I have a motto: Every problem has a solution; you just have to find it. I enjoy traveling to new places! The world is too big to not explore. I also love watching movies. Suspense and horror are my favorite. And overall, I just love making new memories with friends and family.

Ms. Victoria

“Whether you believe you can or not, you're right.”
- Henry Ford

Hello! My name is Ms. Victoria. I am a tutor here at Mission Academy. I am working on my Bachelor's degree in Math Education. Although math is my favorite, I can help with any subject. My goal is to become a math teacher and work my way up to become an administrator. In my spare time I enjoy shopping, wandering around bookstores and thrift shops, playing with my dog, traveling to new towns finding new foods to try, and spending time with family.
